What pre qualifications do I need?
The courses are designed for fitness professionals and exercise-related allied health professionals to expand their exercise prescription and exercise teaching skill sets. How many people in the course?
The course has a maximum intake of 20 participants so you can be assured of a high standard of individualised tutoring and mentoring throughout the program.
Is it a certified course?
As Pilates is one of the many forms of fitness and exercise available in the market, the pre-requisites of fitness professional qualification or a exercise-related allied health professional qualification covers graduates for exercise prescription.
How many days/ hours will the course be?
The courses are structured in modules to give maximum learning flexibility and accommodate a range of learning styles. Are there exams?
Yes. Assessment is completed throughout the courses, and is outlined in the course overview document available at this opt-in page. The components of the assessment are
Assessment tasks throughout course (35% weight)
Practical assessments: competency of skills and knowledge assessed throughout the course, including during supervised teaching sessions (35% weight)
Theory exam: Tuesday Week 18 (30% weight)
Will I need first aid before I start?
Yes. As a qualified fitness professional or exercise-related allied health professional you are required to hold a first aid certificate to teach or prescribe exercise.
Do I need insurance?
Yes. As a qualified fitness professional or exercise-related allied health professional you are required to hold relevant insurance to teach or prescribe exercise.
Do I get to practice in a studio environment?
Yes. All supervised teaching practical assessment times happen at the Balance & Control Pilates Studio in Richmond.

If I miss a place in the first in-take , how long is the wait list?
The courses are delivered over an 18 week period. Following the October 2012 intake, the next intake will be March 2013
What qualifications do the course presenters have?

If I am a Physiotherapist is there a different ‘stream’ or work content?
Yes. The Rehab Applications study stream has been specifically designed to suit the practical needs of exercise-related allied health practitioners. See the Rehab Applications stream here
How many hours of Pilates do I need to have completed to do this course?
These courses are explicitly designed to develop your skills in teaching Pilates, not how to learn to do Pilates. You are therefore required to show proof of a minimum of 40 hours of participation in Pilates classes as a pre-requisite of the course. Will I be provided with course notes?
Yes. You will be provided with a comprehensive course manual and a comprehensive manual of exercise repertoire.
What work opportunities are there for me after the course?
There are a range of options to utilise your new Pilates teaching skills upon successful completion of the instructor training course – from working in gyms, to Pilates Studios, to private clinical practice (for allied health professionals), and even running private classes yourself.
